On our most recent trip to Maui this past February, my wife and I decided one day in Hana just wasn’t going to cut it and made reservations for the Hotel Hana-Maui. That meant going to the Oheo Gulch on that following morning waaaaay before the crowds and the tour buses started showing up, which was a big plus.
It was a great time, climbing rocks, getting shots of the pools and mini-falls from different angles, and aside from maybe 4 other people there at the time, it felt like I had the entire place to myself.
All was well until I got a little too ambitious with my rock climbing and was paying more attention to where my next shot was going to be from and not enough focus on the rocks below my feet. Or, at least where I thought they were, seeing that I missed and went right into the water!!!

Other than that little mishap, the morning at the Oheo Gulch was great. The only thing I missed out on, due to the fall, was the 2 mile hike through the bamboo forest to see Waimoku Falls. Certainly something I’m planning to do at the soonest possible opportunity.
